The Birch Perch Project has begun!

The footings are in at the Birch Perch Project in Western Michigan. We will show you on video how to build this house!

Tomorrow we get our shipment of Insulated Concrete Forms (ICFs) and soon we will begin installing the ICF basement walls.

Some of you may recall that I used to install ICFs on all of our projects until we became too busy to install ICFs so we started to hire that portion of the project out. Recently, we made an investment in ICF equipment to once again install our own ICFs. This time, we can handle the volume and will not be hiring the ICFs out. We can also help homeowners who want to install their own ICFs, just email me and I will give you a call if you are interested!

The Birch Perch Project is a house the I designed in our design studio. This house will look like it grew out of the ground when we get done building it. Currently, I am working on drawing several projects and always have time to look at people's ideas. If you are interested in taking advantage of our design/build/DIY ICF and SIP services, please email me and I will be glad to talk to you about your project!

Stay tuned to this blog or to my facebook page for up to date information on this exciting new Hybrid Home Project!

Magazine Coverage

Happy Holidays Everyone!

'Tis the Season for just about everything!

One of our projects has been getting major national and international press. DETAILS Magazine (sister publication of GQ Magazine) recently did a story on Underground Homes around the world. I was surprised when I got an interview request for this piece, but I followed up with them anyway, as I felt that getting the word out about living healthy and smart outside of the green building world was beneficial.

The following link is to the online version of the article. All the featured structures in this article are amazing! I am honored to have one of our projects featured in a magazine of this caliber!

Earth Shelter Project earns USDA grant.

The Earth Shelter Project Michigan recently recieved a very generous grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). This grant encompasses everything that takes the green house dome and the barn dome off-the-grid.

I will post more later about this, and what it is like to work with the USDA. The project team is very excited about this grant, and very thankful to the USDA for being so generous. Thank you to my fellow grant writers for putting in so much time on this grant.

Also, I would like to welcome VELUX aboard this project. We recently purchased 33 sun tunnels from them and I am currently working with their corporate marketers to bring them up to speed on what we stand for and what the project is about. We have used VELUX products in the past, we just never had the opportunity to get corporate involved. Stay tuned for this exciting news also.
